What precautions should I take if I travel to India during COVID 19?

Traveling may be your hobby your passion but in this pandemic situation, traveling will increase of spreading of COVID-19. The travelers can all be vulnerable to the virus and catch the virus from multiple crowded places such as the airport, bus stations, railway stations, etc. There are areas where social isolation can be difficult. If you are on a trip, make sure you and others do take the proper precautions before, during, and after your journey.

Delay travel if, within the last 14 days, you have been waiting for test results, positive tests, sick, or if you have symptoms COVID-19.

Before the Trip:

  • Speak to your doctor in advance of your trip if you are more at a risk due to the symptoms of the COVID-19 illness. You can delay your travel a little or reschedule your trip.
  • Get screened 1–3 days before your trip with a viral test, keep a copy of your results while you travel.
  • Don't travel if your test results are positive; isolate yourself immediately, and obey the advice of public health.

Check if your airline needs any medical records, test reports, or other documentation while traveling by air. Follow entry conditions or limitations at your destination that may include checks, quarantine, etc. See your destination office for specifics on entry conditions and travel restrictions with your country's Office of Foreign Affairs or the Ministry of Health or the U.S. Department of State, Consular Affairs, Country Information page. You can be expected to isolate when checking positive on arrival and would require medical assistance if you get sick in India.

On the way.

Take the following precautions while traveling to defend yourself and others against the COVID-19 virus:

  • Wait with someone traveling with you at least six feet/2 meters (around two arm lengths).
  • Use a mask to keep the nose and mouth hidden, even in public transit, and when in everyday spaces.
  • Wash your hands regularly or use the sanitizer (with at least 60 percent alcohol).
  • Maintain social distancing.
  • Make sure to not touch your mouth, nose, and eyes.
  • If you're sick, don't fly
  • Get a viral test for 1-3 days before your return to the U.S.

After your ride,

  • Take 14 days of quarantine after travel to protect others against illness.
  • Test your trip for 3–5 days and stay at home seven days after the trip.
  • Staying in home quarantine for at least seven days is mandatory, even though you have been tested negative.
  • If the result is positive, separate yourself from others to avoid spreading the virus.
  • It's better to stay at home ten days after travel if you are not checked.
  • Avoid individuals who have an elevated risk of serious illness for 14 days, whether they are checked.
  • Always meet state and local rules or travel criteria.

Taking these precautions to protect others from illness:

• Wear a mask to keep your mouth and nose hidden, even though you use public transport, in shared spaces outside your building.

The Indian government has become strict with the travel rules, especially for the individual who is coming from abroad. India is already on a high alert due to the increasing COVID cases; hence the government has taken out fresh rules for traveling. Each individual is expected to follow the rules stated above and take the precautions needed to protect themselves and the ones traveling along with them. In fact, before performing the activities for India's eVisa application, one must analyze the pandemic situation before.
